The Mount Isa Border ride headed into its twelfth year on Saturday August 3 with over 100 cyclists from all over the state.
This year history was made, with Kym Lynch reigning supreme, the first woman to ever win the race.
Lynch who is a sergeant with the police Mount Isa, was previously a professional cyclist.
Lynch said she was feeling quite poorly in the first 50km, carrying a slight stomach virus into the event but decided to not give up.
"My never say die attitude got me through," she said.
She said also enjoyed competing against male riders.
"I love testing myself against the fittest and strongest male riders, it keeps them on their toes,"
Lynch completed the 202km course in 4 hours 52 minutes and 59 seconds, at an average speed of 41km/h and a top speed of 54.7km/h.
The border ride raises money through the love of cycling for individuals, families and charity organisations in Mount Isa and the surrounding region.
