The President of the Mount Isa Branch of the ALP Lesley-Ann Peterson said the matter was discussed when tourism minister Kate Jones attended their meeting while she was in Mount Isa for the rodeo.
Ms Peterson said Ms Jones told the meeting the prospect of the Olympic Games being held in Queensland in 2032 was very real based on discussions between the Prime Minister, the Premier and herself.
Members of the local ALP requested the Minister to use her influence to have some of the Games events staged in Regional Queensland should the Queensland bid be be successful and stressed there were events which could be staged at Mount Isa's Buchanan Park.
Former Mount Isa Mayor Tony McGrady said history proved Mount Isa has what it takes to hold an Olympic event.
"These discussions came during the days when one of the world's largest and most successful rodeos was taking place in our city." Mr McGrady said.
"If we as a Community can unite under the leadership of our service clubs and others to stage this International event there is nothing which we could not tackle."
Last week Prime Minister Scott Morrison said it was worth spending $10 million to try and get the Olympics hosted in Queensland in 2032, even at the risk of the effort falling short.
