Project officer with Queensland Aboriginal and Islander Health Council, Renee Bull was recognised for developing the 'Breakthrough Our Way' package addressing Aboriginal and Islander community's health, with specific regard to the impacts of ICE in remote communities throughout regional Queensland.
"I was very honoured to be awarded, but the project wouldn't have happened without an array of people," Ms Bull said.
"This includes our partners Apunipmia Cake York Health Council and the commitment and strength of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait accessible program for the many families in need of help and support, whose lives are affected by someone's drug or alcohol use."
Ms Bull said the project was developed with indigenous communities.
"This award represents that we have got a really meaningful package and that has come from listening to what the communities need and putting it together for them," she said.
"Doing the whole journey of the program with communities to make sure it is appropriate and having the right access to resources has been amazing.
"I sincerely thank the Queensland Child Protection Week for their continued commitment in acknowledged and celebrating the dedication of many who make significant contributions in supporting families to be strong and our children safe."
Making the move from Brisbane to Mount Isa, Ms Bull plans to conduct her work closely within the indigenous communities of North West Queensland.
"My focus area for the next 12 months of funding, Is the Mount Isa, Normanton, Doomadgee, Mornington Island and Torres areas, so what better way to engage with community then being there and living it," she said.
"I prefer the on the ground approach and engage with communities rather then fly in and out.
"In the short time I have been here it has been great to connect with the already established organisations that are here and we look forward to sharing our resources with them and get this program to the people."
