Mount Isa City Council have agreed to provided the Buchanan Park Rodeo Arena for a big boxing event.
The event is part of Jeff Horn's New Zealand-based promoter Dean Lonergan planned national boxing series.
The new event has received a tourism grant from the state government from the Year of the Outback and will see 30 fights over three years and they want to launch it in Mount Isa next year.
According to what promoter Lonergan told Mount Isa City Council, this new national boxing series would see world class fighters (though not Jeff Horn himself sadly) come to regional centres including Mount Isa.
He told Council the fights would be broadcast nationally on Foxtel in front of an expected crowd of 5000 people. Originally planned for October this year, it has been moved back though no firm date has yet been locked in for the fight nights.
