On August 28, Mount Isa City Council moved the motion to remove commercial businesses from the tip token distribution, which sees three vouchers issued per rates notice.

Director of Compliance and Utilities, Jake Hart said it was determined that only residential properties would be issued the tokens due to Municipal Solid Waste costs being reimbursed by the State Government's Waste Levy.

"Domestic properties are exempt from the waste levy, but waste from commercial and industrial properties is now waste leviable," Mr Hart said.

"There is no direct benefit to council, however it will decrease the overall cost to community by not subsidising waste leviable loads."

By removing commercial ratepayers from the registry, it will reduce Council's tip tokens issued from 7800 to 6900.

Mr Hart said Council would continue to provide ratepayers of residential properties six free tip tokens per year.

"These tokens can only be used to dispose of domestic waste," he said.

"It gives residential ratepayers the opportunity to dispose of their household waste at the waste management facility free of charge.

"This reduces the cost for ratepayers to keep their properties tidy and reduces the amount of illegal dumping."
