A new committee welcomes all members of the community to attend their inaugural Come and Try and Sign Up night on Wednesday October 9th from 5pm at Splashez Aquatic Centre.

After three years of non-operation, a group of individuals interested in swimming and sport have banded together to reignite this great club.

When asked why they came together, Club secretary Hayley King said it was to give local kids the same opportunities as city kids in the swimming pool.

"We already have a great swim school operating through Miss Julie and her dedicated teachers in a fantastic facility," Ms King said.

"By re-establishing the club we are giving our kids the opportunity to practice their skills in a competitive context."

Ms King said it hadn't been an easy task re-establishing the club.

"Sometimes re-establishing a club is more difficult that creating a club," she said.

"There has been many hours and countless conversations with the Office of Fair Trading to ensure we were legally up to date with financials and Swimming Queensland has been a wealth of information and support during this time."

The club is open to all ages including seniors with events ranging from 25m and up. Club nights will be held on Wednesdays from 5-7pm with events starting at 5:30pm.

Historically Mount Isa has had a strong swimming background with swimming greats John Oravainen, Bill Burton Lenette Jones and Lyn Abbot beginning their swimming careers in Mount Isa.

"You never know the next Olympic Champion may just come from Mt Isa," Ms King said.

"We hope to see all those interested at the Come and Try and Sign Up night to kick off the 2019/2020 swimming season."
