At around 9.50pm on Friday September 6, a disturbance involving between 40-50 people occurred on Abel Smith Parade, between George and Martin Streets.
Several individual fights occurred simultaneously, during this disturbance. It is alleged the fights occurred as a result of a disagreement between family groups.
During this disturbance, a boy was struck by a passing vehicle, resulting in significant injuries and urgent transportation to a Townsville hospital for medical attention.
The boy remains in a critical, but stable condition.
Police have spoken with the male driver of the vehicle and can confirm he has no connection to the family groups involved in the disturbance, nor does he have any connection to the injured boy.
The involved vehicle has been seized and police are continuing their investigations into the matter.
Police will continue to work with the involved families, in an attempt to help them resolve their issues peacefully and to settle on a resolution to the matter.
