The odds were stacked against the Tigers in their clash against reigning premiers Buffs even before their controversy began, with the two sides playing each other three times this season and the Buffs winning all three.
Tigers' road to the premiership involved a forfeit protest, a huge semi final win, an abandoned final victory and to top it all off a 67-point victory against the clear favourite Buffs in the grand final.
The first quarter saw the Tigers keep up with their blistering form through relentlessly playing the game in the opposition half. This left Buffs shell shocked with the score 32-3 to the Tigers.
Buffs fought back in the second quarter and a comeback was on the cards. Especially after Tigers only kicked four behinds to have the half time score 36-11.
The premiership third quarter proved dividends for the Tigers who fired straight away with three quick goals to make the score 54-11. Several majors came from Bronson Rowlen's fancy footwork.
The third quarter finished at 67-24 and the Buffs needed a miracle to achieve their three-peat.
In the end it was Tigers' day to remember as they refused to slow down and continued to kick goals. This left the final score at Tigers 15.8 (98) to Buffs 4.7 (31).
After the match Buffs player coach Josh Schofield said they should have been more prepared for that first quarter.
"It is a bit frustrating because we spoke about our first quarter not being the best, we knew we had to get off to a good start and we just didn't do that." Schofield said.
Schofield said the Tigers just turned up better on the day.
"They attacked the ball a lot better than us, it was one of those games where it seemed like we couldn't even get a bounce to go our way.
"We can't put all the blame on that though because obviously our skills and competitiveness was not up to it on the day," he said.
Tigers captain and best on ground Mitch Godfrey said he knew his team had to maintain their momentum and get off to a good start.
"We knew we had to come out strong and put some early points on the board," Godfrey said.
"I think they were surprised with how hard we came out and we just never really looked back."
Godfrey was quick to praise his team mates.
"Every man did his job on the day and played the full four quarters," he said.
"It was such an epic win I am so proud of the boys."
