A Mount Isa Race Club sub-committee, created in early 2019, has re-branded the Fashions on the Field competition to attract more competitors and boost fashion stakes in the region.
Committee members Reegyn McElligott, Renee Moore and Caroline Lucas redeveloped the Fashions criteria and categories to cater for more entrants.
"We are very passionate about races and love a good Fashions on the Field competition," Ms McElligott said.
"We post criteria before the race meeting on the Mount Isa Race Club Facebook page so everyone knows what the judges are looking for and what is required for each category.
"This year we added Overall Best Dressed Lady and Gentleman to our existing categories Best Dressed Couple, Classic Lady, Contemporary Lady, Best Millinery and the kids categories."
Ms McElligott said the competition showcased Mount Isa as a high fashions destination.
"After re-branding the competition this year, we have received lots of positive feedback and seen a lot of people getting involved," she said.
"There is definitely consistent locals entering the FOTF each race meeting, you always have a selection of ladies who without a doubt who dress up and enter.
"We are also seeing new competitors who have never competed before, giving it ago. This includes the male categories which are becoming increasingly popular."
Following an array of support from competitors and sponsors, the committee were considering expanding the competition further.
"Next year we want to look at expanding the fashions to our other race meetings that we didn't host a competition at this year," Ms McElligott said.
"There is the possibility of even hosting a competition at Mailman Express."
She said the competition wouldn't be possible without sponsors supporting the Fashions but also entrants supporting local businesses for their fashion needs.
