Final results for July showed passenger numbers grew 9.6 per cent to almost 20,000 at Mount Isa during the month, compared to the same period last year. Growth has been recorded at the port for 17 of the past 19 months.
Mount Isa's July 2019 passenger numbers were 19,755 compared to 18,025 the same month last year, a rise of 9.6%
Queensland Airports Ltd CEO Chris Mills was happy to see Mount Isa Airport continue its upward trajectory.
"It is particularly pleasing to see the port perform so well when economic conditions more generally have been soft, and domestic passenger growth is fairly flat across the country," Mr Mills said.
"The number of available seats for Mount Isa was up almost 25% during July compared to the previous year, a sign of increasing confidence in the region by the airlines. These results reflect the strength of the resources sector and came ahead of the Mount Isa Rodeo in August."
The positive results follow a strong year for Mount Isa Airport in FY2019, which saw figures climb by an average of five per cent across the year, with a total of 205,682 passengers passing through the gates during that period.
