From that idea Sgt Strow thought how great it would be to have somewhere where kids can be active but also be surrounded by positive role models.
Sgt Strow began to make the idea of a Mount Isa PCYC youth zone a reality in Pioneer at the site of the old Woolies store which closed in June 2017.
She said amazing community buy-in made this possible.
"We have been overwhelmed with all the support we have received especially about the venue itself," Sgt Strow said.
The youth zone will run sessions to provide a safe but also active space for Mount Isa locals.
Sgt Strow said the sessions would take place twice a week.
"We are looking to run them after school Wednesday and Thursday 3-6pm with some healthy food to follow each session," she said.
"We are hoping to continue to use this space and update and improve the facility."
The new facility is split up into three different sections.
The first is a fitness area where kids can hop through hoops and jump over obstacles.
The second area is for weights and resistance training. This will be used for the more older kids. There is also boxing equipment.
The final section is the chill out zone which includes a yarning circle, Lego, books and ping pong.
The PCYC Youth Zone officially opened to the public on September 19 and is located on the corner of Abel Smith Parade and George St. The existing PCYC next to the Family Fun Park will continue as normal.
