Principal Beth Everill and Snr Sgt Lisa Damman were involved in the ceremony, where Const Blaze Essery made her oath of adoption to the school.
The Adopt-A-Cop program was introduced in 1985 to build positive relationships between police and members of the school community, through the voluntary appointment of Adopt-A-Cops to schools.
The program is an integral part of policing and reflects a greater emphasis on police partnerships with the community.
Along with fellow Doomadgee State School Adopt-A-Cop 'Miss Tara', Miss Blaze will still perform her role as a first response police officer, however she will also take time where possible, to visit the students during their meal breaks and attend classrooms to conduct presentations and attend school events.
The Adopt-A-Cop program has been running for over 30 years and in the Mount Isa District, there are currently over 30 police officers working with local schools as an Adopt-A-Cop.
