President of Mount Isa Race Club Mick Tully said this year the Mount Isa Spring Cup is an open handicap as part of the country cup challenge which is a new initiative to allow bush horses the chance to compete in Brisbane.
"There's a total of 47 nominations overs the five races so they are fantastic fields," Mr Tully said.
"This time of the year all the races are competitive since the horses have been racing all year."
Mr Tully said the main race of the Spring Cup is only six horses but they are all smart so it should be a close race.
