Carpentaria Shire Council says this project which started in September is scheduled to be completed in December 2019 with the facility providing improved infrastructure to further support Council's restocking program of barramundi fisheries in the Gulf region.
The restocking program which started two decades ago now releases tens of thousands of barra fingerlings into local waterways each year.
Queensland governor Paul de Jersey officially opened the new Barramundi Discovery Centre in May during the inaugural Barra and Blues festival.
The festival will return in 2020 in the October long weekend.
