On October 2, Julia Creek Police and McKinlay Shire Council travelled to Phosphate Hill as observers to an aerodrome exercise.
They were invited to observe Jock Ruthven and the emergency response team in action as they demonstrated the aerodrome operations.
The exercise began with a realistic scenario - reports of smoke observed from an incoming plane.
Once the emergency radio call was received, the response included a full run-through from the time of the call, to deployment and positioning at the scene.
Once on scene, emergency crews worked swiftly to their instructions.
Dajarra Police Sergeant Laurelin Gratton and Senior Constable Phillip Plant took control as lead agency, including management of evacuations.
