Four teams entered in the Mount Isa Isuzu Ute Sevens Competition including Keas, Cloncurry, Euros and Fiji.

The afternoon saw a highly competitive competition with Keas dominating over the other teams to take out the victory at the end of the day.

Event organiser, Euros treasurer and team manager Jillian Martin said more than 100 spectators attended the event to help support the local clubs.

"This year all the clubs are holding their own competition of some description, to help rugby clubs fundraise," Ms Martin said.

"As much as we have amazing sponsors, we can't just rely on sponsors to fund everything we want to do as a club, so it was a way to improve the clubs within themselves."

Ms Martin said this was an initiative of Mount Isa Rugby Union, which aklso provided an insight into how the competitions are run.

"For us it was a great way to open the season and get a better understanding of how the competition works," she said.

"I liked organising the event because I got to see a lot of the working behind the scenes and can implement a lot better suggestions to how the Mount Isa competition can run in the future."

The sevens competition was not the only event on the day with the junior sign on day taking place also.

"Mount Isa Rugby Union has received a lot of interest in a junior competition," Ms Martin said.

"We had a great turn out of kids between the ages of five to 17, who all enjoyed having a pass of the footy and having a go."

Juniors training started on Thursday October 17 at the rugby union grounds from 5pm-5.50pm. If anyone is interested in joining they can contact MIRU.
