On October 4, an Infrastructure Agreement between Bunnings and council was formally finalised. The contract of sale became unconditional and is due to be settled on Friday, October 25.

Council commenced discussions with Bunnings in 2009 for the purchase of the former works depot site at 89 West Street, with the company lodging a Development Application in May 2017 to construct a Bunnings Warehouse store on the site.

Council issued a development permit for the project in October that year. Council and Bunnings then entered into negotiations over certain conditions of the Infrastructure Agreement, which have now been finalised and mutually agreed upon.

Mayor Joyce McCulloch said she was delighted council and Bunnings were able to come to an agreement, which will mean Bunnings will be able to proceed with any plans for the site.

"The former works depot site has been sitting vacant for almost a decade, so it's great to see something will be happening there in the future," Cr McCulloch said.

Bunnings area manager Michael Rodwell said Bunnings was pleased with the outcome.

"We are pleased to have purchased the site and while we have no firm timelines yet, we look forward to working with Mount Isa City Council as things progress," Mr Rodwell said.
