Flames soar into the air as stunned bystanders watch on. The fire meets the sea and it's ferocious.
This amazing, but terrifying, video was shared with Australian Community Media by Old Bar resident Leon Fealy of the fires that have ripped through more than 5500 hectares of bush from Darawank and Minimbah Road near Forster-Tuncurry and eastward to the coastline.
The fires have raged for days, forced evacuations and resulted in lost property.
Spot fires have started north of Black Head Drive pushing the fire towards Tallwoods Village on Sunday afternoon. Residents in this area have been urged to enact their bush fire survival plan.
The fires remain at Watch and Act level. Nine Mile Beach at Tuncurry is closed.
If you are heading south from Port Macquarie, the fire is producing large amounts of smoke, which may affect the Pacific Highway.
A new fire is also burning east of the Pacific Highway at Coopernook. On Sunday at 3pm, crews were responding to the incident to slow the spread of fire.
Waterbombing aircraft and RFS units from across the Mid-North Coast are working to assist fire crews.
Hastings fire update:
A 261 hectare fire at Mt Seaview is being contained.
Wauchope Rural Fire brigade along with Lake Cathie, Sancrox/Thrumster, North Shore, Long Flat, Beechwood and Camden Haven crews attended the fire along the Oxley Highway west of Mt Seaview.
Due to fire impacting the highway and trees falling across the road, the highway between Walcha and Bago at Wauchope remains closed. Motorists can use the Waterfall Way as an alternative route.
A 648 hectare fire at Bril Bril is being controlled.
A small bushfire at the back of Crestwood, Port Macquarie, which erupted on Saturday afternoon following a lightning storm, is also being controlled. Waterbombing helicopters have been used to access the fire zone.
There are currently 80 bush and grass fires burning across the state with 45 yet to be contained.
