The RAAF will mark 100 years of supporting Australia and its national interests on March 31, 2021 followed by a year-long series of public events in every state and territory, including rural, remote and Indigenous engagement programs.

The RAAF have announced Mount Isa as one of the towns where an event will take place.

Wing Commander Ivan Benitez-Aguirre said they were proud to announce Mount Isa would be part of the celebration as it holds rich history with the RAAF.

"Mount Isa's history includes the 5th Movement Control Group operating out of the town during World War II, as well as the detachment of No 8 Transportation and Movements Office operated out of Mount Isa between 1944 and 1946," Wing Commander Benitez-Aguirre said.

"Overall our aim is to honour the past, inspire the future and know our place in he community."

Wing Commander Benitez-Aguirre said Cloncurry also shared history with the RAAF.

"Cloncurry was the location of No 23 Inland Aircraft Fuel Depot from 1942-44," he said.

"There was a total of 58 people from Mount Isa and 109 from Cloncurry who joined the RAAF during World War II."

The Air Force still play a role in both towns with a C-17A Globemaster III operating in Mount Isa during the North West Queensland floods in February 2019 and Cloncurry Airport being able to operate the majority of RAAF's heavy lift aircraft.

The RAAF said more details about the event will be released in the next six months.
