Works at the Carl Katter Bridge on Hudson Fysh Drive, commenced in July with the deconstruction of the old bridge, with the new bridge currently at 70 per cent completion.
The project faces a slight hold up with contractors waiting for the other half of beams to be delivered, however are continuing to progress with earthworks until they arrive on Thursday (November 7).
Cloncurry Shire Council Mayor Greg Campbell said the new bridge would enhance safety for those travelling along the route.
"The bridge will be higher and wider allowing two lanes of traffic to cross at the same time," Cr Campbell said.
"I don't think a safety inspection has ever been done on the Carl Katter Bridge. So with the increase of heavy vehicles and longer vehicles we thought it was time to check it.
"A safety inspection was done and there was no original design paper work available so it was deemed unsafe."
Cloncurry Shire Council lobbied for funding and received $2.47 million from the Federal Government's Bridges Renewal Program, with council to match the cost to complete the upgrade.
