And that women, particularly in low-income countries, are routinely excluded from positions of leadership and left out of decision-making processes?
You can help to change the status quo and make a difference to the lives of women around the world by signing up to complete ActionAid Australia's Strong Women Challenge.
Participants are asked to get friends and family to sponsor them to complete a daily strength-building challenge, symbolically standing in solidarity with women in countries like Kenya, Vanuatu and Cambodia.

Queensland remains near the bottom of the ladder
The Palaszczuk Labor Government is failing to create jobs and provide job security for Queenslanders.
Labor doesn't have a plan to get Queensland working and five years of economic mismanagement has taken its toll.
Queensland has the highest unemployment rate in the nation under Labor.
At 178,000 - Queensland has a record number of job seekers out of work and looking for a job.
That's the economic legacy of Annastacia Palaszczuk's 9 new taxes that have hit the Queensland economy like a sledgehammer.
The latest CommSec state of the states report has Queensland locked into 5th position, at the bottom of the economic ladder.
Where Queensland was once an economic powerhouse, we are now fighting for the wooden spoon.
Instead of fake fights with Canberra, Labor should be working with the Federal Government to build infrastructure that will bust congestion and create jobs.
There is more than $3.3 billion of projects that have been held up or put on the backburner because of Annastacia Palaszczuk and Jackie Trad playing politics with infrastructure.
Those infrastructure projects will deliver more than 10,000 new jobs that are desperately needed right now.
Only Deb Frecklington and the LNP has a plan to get Queensland working, build infrastructure and guarantee no new taxes.

Gold Coast freeway
Queensland's Labor Government has just announced that it will build a second freeway on the Gold Coast. As with every other freeway in the south-east, the whole State will pay for it but it's not the whole State which will use it much.
So on behalf of One Nation and the LNP, I announce that after the government changes at the next election, tolls will be imposed on all existing freeways in the south-east. There will be a toll on this new freeway when it's finished too.
This is the only way to release the money presently locked up in freeways, so that it can be recycled to pay for the upgrading of the Bruce Highway to Cairns.
Yes, the whole State will be again be paying for a road which not all of the State's people will not get to use much, but it's the south-east's turn to be in that position. And I have to announce this on behalf of One Nation and the LNP because they're too stupid, lazy and gutless to do it themselves.
