Put the welfare of people before the bat
I must say I was somewhat amused by the Opinion Section North West Star October 31 and the letter to the Editor from James Bambrick regarding bats and transparency in government.

Our Environment Minister states that Councils have open slather when dealing with Bats, then goes on to say that Councils must work under The Code of Practice, Ecologically Sustainable Management of Flying Fox Roosts.
Sorry Minister you cant have it both ways.
Mr Bambrick goes on with a lot of hyperbole about transparency in government, which appears to be an attempt to justify an attack on Mayor Joyce McCulloch.
I would like to remind Mr Bambrick that Ex-Mayor McGrady made a commitment, prior to his election as Mayor, that he would do something to solve the bat problem.
Given his years as a Minister, and his connections in the Queensland Government, his total failure to achieve any improvement at all, must signal to all concerned, it is more than a matter of transparency.
By the way I firmly believe that the practice of putting bat welfare before community convenience has gone on long enough, and it is time for common sense to prevail.

Labor slashes $13 million from rural firies
The Palaszczuk Labor Government has been caught making a massive cut to Rural Fire Service funding in Queensland.
The LNP Opposition has revealed the Rural Fire Service's funding was being slashed by $13million this financial year - a 25 per cent reduction of its 2018/19 budget.
Labor must explain why.
Given the unprecedented recent fires, you'd think it would be time to increase investment in our Rural Fire Services - not axe it by a quarter.
Labor's Emergency Services Minister claims to support rural firies when he's in the regions, but when he gets back to Brisbane he takes an axe to their budget.
This dangerous cut in Rural Fire Service funding shows that Labor doesn't care about regional Queensland.
Labor cut the number of hazard reduction burns and then blamed the bushfires on our farmers.
Blaming farmers for confusion over backburning while ignoring Labor's mismanagement of state-controlled land and national parks was a new low.
Only the LNP will deal with the bushfire threat and ensure our rural firies get the funding they need.

Re Kalkatungu Governing Council to address youth crime in Mount Isa
Joshua Hart If anybody wants to get in touch with me I'd be happy to help. I'm a Kalkatunga man, born and raised in Mount Isa, worked in my community for large part of my adult years with various organisations including KASH, Arthur Petersen SCS, Jimaylya, Youth Connections (now defunct), Breakthru People Solutions and YPA Youth Resi. I've been living in Victoria since 2014 and work in a high indigenous populated region Latrobe Valley and based out of Morwell as a Koorie Youth Justice Worker. We have a very successful program here called "Kickback" that I helped develop that is making waves across the State in the Youth Justice space. It is having a real impact on our community, the young people and their families. I would love to give back to my home community and help make a difference on my mother's fathers country. The powers that be only need to message me to start the conversation.
Helen Simmons Joshua Hart we need more people like you who know there is no easy solution and are willing to try. Thank you for such a respectful and informative response
