The 2019 Northern Outback business awards sponsored by Jemena are actually for the entire North West Queensland and indeed outlying businesses such as Julia Creek's Gravel and Grace and Karumba's the End of the Road Motel were honoured on the night.
But unsurprisingly the night was dominated by Mount Isa businesses.
Special congratulations go to Reegyn McElligott and her excellent business The Skin Coaches. The Skin Coaches took out three awards on the night including the two biggest awards - business of the year and the people's choice award.
The awards come just a few months after the team at The Skin Coaches was recognised nationally for their customer service at the Australian Beauty Industry Awards in Sydney.
The Mount Isa business won the 2019 Best Customer Care award in front of hundreds of beauty professionals on August 25 competing against all beauty salons in Australia.
Now what I know about beauty salons could fit on a matchbox but it clear Ms McElligott are doing something very right.
My congratulations to Commerce North West for putting on another terrific night.
The night saw the announcement by Commerce North West president Travis Crowther he was stepping down after seven years in the role.
Mr Crowther, the boss man of The Boss Shop, has done a fine job leading the organisation through some difficult times.
At the awards he said it was time to devote more attention to his business and his young family.
He will be missed but I look forward to new blood driving the chamber forward into the 2020s.
Commerce North West's annual general meeting and Christmas function is on November 20.
I urge local business people to join up and attend the night for some good networking. And if you are so inclined, I'm sure the committee could do with some new talent to set the direction for business in the city and the region.
