Two Te Whanau teams and a Tigers team competed in the Hughenden Regional Carnival on Saturday November 9.
The Te Whanau teams placed first and second, while Tigers brought home the wooden spoon.
Isa Dragons vice president Zara Margolis stepped in to play for Tigers and said the carnival was a fun and supportive event.
"This was the first time the Hughenden Netball Association had run a carnival and it was organised by two members who were tired of only playing with three teams in their internal competition," Ms Margolis said.
"Therefore they expanded it to make it a regional carnival with a total of eight teams registering, coming from Mount Isa, Hughenden, Barcaldine and Longreach.
"More than 80 players took part in 21 games across eight hours of competition."
Ms Margolis said the Regional Carnival could become an annual event.
"The association has just released a survey calling for feedback on what we thought did and didn't work because they are looking into making it an annual event," she said.
"They sound really keen to make it bigger and better and I know my club would definitely be keen to support a regional competition.
"Usually the closest competition for Mount Isa is Townsville so it was good to have a competition a bit closer to home."
Ms Margolis believes Mount Isa also has the capacity to host a Regional Netball Carnival.
"Hughenden had an indoor court which was lovely, but they only have one of them," she said.
"While Mount Isa has eight courts and recently completed new lighting, it could hosts a lot more people and I know that it is something that MIANA (Mount Isa Amateur Netball Association) do want to look into doing. But with anything it takes a lot of organisation and volunteers."
