Mount Isa Trainer Bob Burow had the luck of the Irish on St Patrick's Day when he won four of the five. The action, on and off the track, saw 550 locals and visitors show up dressed in a plethora of green hues to mingle and bet on the five-card race program. Mount Isa Race Club president Mick Tully said it was a great crowd of punters and party-goers. Burow won with all four of his horses on the day.

Mount Isa parkrun celebrated its first anniversary on Saturday March 30. The free weekly 5km run or walk has been a huge success in the 12 months it has been going and regularly attracts 70 walkers and runners or more each Saturday morning. The theme for the first anniversary run was the colour orange to celebrate the volunteers that keep it running.
For the second year in a row the Panthers have come through the pack to mug pre-game favourite and minor premiers Black Stars to win the Mount Isa 40 over cricket premiership. The key to the second of their back-to-back successes was their tight bowling which restricted the dangerous Black Stars batters.
Scotty Prince, Robbie Katter and Mick Tully will battle it out with international rugby league legends such as Matty Bowen, John Hopoate and Willie Tonga at a charity game in Mount Isa on May 18. In March the International Legends of League officially launched the Mount Isa game at Alec Inch Oval when the Linmar Mount Isa Allstars take on the Australian Legends.
A 17 year old Mount Isa campdrafter has taken out the inaugural Sisters of the North Ladies Campdraft in Cloncurry. On Saturday April 6, 176 nominated ladies battled it out for a Panda Pearls jewellery set and prize money, but it was Georgia Curr from Yelvertoft Station that took out the competition. Georgia placed first on Romeo's Destiny.
Tributes flowed in April for former MIRL legend Tom Tassell, who died aged 76. Tom was a highly-respected QRL Northern Division life member with 50 years' service to junior and senior league in North Queensland as coach, administrator, selector, and advisor.
Mount Isa Rugby Union saw a tight grand final match between Euros and Keas on Saturday April 13. Euros took the win 22-21. The winning conversion on the final whistle came from Zemic Patuwai who suffered concussion two weeks prior and dislocated his arm in the grand final game.
Mount Isa triathlete Kim Alcorn has her first Julia Creek Dirt n Dust win after finishing third in 2018, completing the course in first place for the women's category in 01.25.42. IsaRat Kim said nothing shaped up to the Dirt n Dust Festival. "The triathlon was tough but I very much enjoyed it and I will be back every year," Kim said.
