The only team with silverware in the cabinet this season is the Western Bulls who took out the T20 season on Saturday November 16. But the first match of the season saw the Bulls lose against the Black Stars.
Trent Cameron top scored for the Starries with 58 runs and Ben Spooner backed him up with a solid 38 finishing on 217.
The Bulls fell 55 runs short in the chase.
W. Hall made 52 while Narine made 42 not out as they finished on 162 with the wickets shared around.
The T20 competition became a three way rat race after the Panthers failed to string together a win, leaving the Black Stars and Cavaliers to fight for the remaining finals spot.

The Black Stars batted first and Bateman notched up a handy 64 not out alongside classy left-hander Nadish who made 50.
Cavaliers player Jason Wellington said Rian Van Zyl bowled tight with the ball in his four overs but was unlucky to secure a wicket (0-16).
The Black Stars finished on 163 leaving the Cavaliers needing eight runs an over to win.
Bowler Hill got the Starries off to the perfect start removing Fitz for a duck in the first over.
The pressure continued to build as the Cavs lost wickets at regular intervals with only Corey Moon standing tall making a half century.
"Corey 'The Statue' Moon's 54 was impressive with the bat against the good bowling from the Stars," Wellington said.
The Cavaliers fell short by 33 runs
The final would be a day to remember for Bulls batsman Wes Hall.
The Stars decided to put runs on the board but found themselves losing wickets on a regular basis. Some late order hitting from Hill (41) rejuvenated the Stars innings for them to end on 7-157.
There were no signs of finals nerves once openers Hall and Jerome put the pads on, heading into the half way mark at drinks with the score at 1-79 and only Jerome (34) in the sheds.
The Stars bowlers struggled to defend their par score and Hall went on to stand tall holding onto his bat for a chance-less 82 not out.
The Bulls chased down the Stars score in the 19th over 2-158.
Things haven't been as easy for the Bulls in the 40 over competition, who have started off with two losses.
The Panthers snatched their first win of the season after a Cavalier forfeit and the Stars are two from two and might be the team to beat with their long batting order.
