Families from remote parts of Queensland and the Northern Territory descended on Mount Isa for their annual week of Sports for Bush Kids. In conjunction with this event, 110 MISOTA students enjoyed an activity day learning Christmas crafts on Wednesday December 4.
MISOTA spokesperson Annette Reid said families travelled from as far as Normanton, Birdsville, Richmond, Northern Territory and Western Australia.
"This day was all about the students coming together with their teacher for Christmas activities," Ms Reid said.
"This included Christmas stories, Christmas baking, belt and leather works, painting and more.
"In the second session of the day students moved up to the next years teacher, so they got to meet their teacher for 2020.
"We also did a rain dance to welcome the wet season and students collected their book packs for next year."
Ms Reid said this was one of two times the whole school came together.
"This week and one week in May is the only time the whole school comes together. In May they come to town for NAPLAN and our athletics carnival," she said.
"These events mean everything to some of these kids and they look forward to it all year. They get to see their friends and get to work in a group environment."
Ms Reid said students also performed a strings concert on Monday night.
"Some students play violin and they performed earlier in the week," she said.
"All their lessons are at home by themselves or by air. Then they come together as a group and perform and it was amazing, they did so well."
