A 28-year-old Wellesley Islands man has been charged with multiple offences on Mornington Island overnight.

At around 2pm on Monday December 9, a man was walking along Ngerrawum and Lardil Streets, when a woman known to him allegedly approached and stabbed him in the left shoulder blade with a knife.
At around 5pm, it is alleged this man forced his way into a dwelling searching for the woman, who had taken refuge in the bathroom. He pushed passed a male occupant of the house, forced entry to the bathroom and assaulted the woman with an axe handle.
It is further alleged the man forced the woman to walk with him to the beach and continued to assault her with the axe handle, resulting in a laceration to her head and fractures in one of her fingers.
Police were alerted to this incident by witnesses. The woman was located, however the man fled. He was later located and arrested.
The 28-year-old Wellesley Islands man has been charged with two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed (domestic violence offence) and one count each of burglary, deprivation of liberty (domestic violence offence), grievous bodily harm (domestic violence offence) and wilful damage. He is due to appear in the Mornington Island Magistrates Court on Tuesday December 10.
