Dr Damien Kee worked with students at Cloncurry state high school who have excelled in digital technology and were looking to expand and challenge their skills.
"The Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy workshops help to showcase the wide variety of interesting careers in the resources sector and put them on the right path to achieving them," said Katrina-Lee Jones Director Skills Education and Diversity with the Queensland Resources Council.
"This is so important because, while we are facing skills shortages, a recent survey by the Minerals Council of Australia demonstrated that 60 percent of students had no knowledge of resources careers."
South32 Cannington Vice President Operations Rob Jackson said the Cannington mine was a proud supporter of the workshops.
"Our people mentor the students, helping them see how technology can be used in the resources sector," Rob said.
"It's a great way to highlight the many rewarding careers the industry has to offer."
