The Queensland Mines Inspectorate temporarily suspended underground operations on November 18, after the mine failed to provide information to the regulator to demonstrate that the risk to workers was at an acceptable level.

The mine south of Cloncurry is owned and operated by FMR Investments, and a company spokesperson said the safety and welfare of their workforce was their overriding priority.

"Preliminary underground works are being conducted at Eloise to support the future resumption of normal operations," the spokesperson said.

"We're working closely with the Queensland Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy to resume normal operations as quickly as we can."

A Queensland Mines Inspectorate spokesperson said they had allowed limited work to be undertaken underground.

"QMI was provided with information by Eloise Mine operators on 9 December including risk management information which was required as a condition of re-entry," the QMI spokesperson said.

"The safety of Queensland mine workers is paramount and our inspectors will continue to work with the mine to ensure safe operations."
