Museums and Galleries Queensland congratulated Cloncurry Unearthed Visitor Information Centre and Museum, John Flynn Place Museum and Art Gallery, Mount Isa Underground Hospital and Museum, and Outback at Isa for completing an intensive year-long program throughout 2019 reviewing their practice against The National Standards for Australian Museums and Galleries.
The Standards Review Program supports museums and galleries to build skills and capacity, plan for a sustainable future, identify strategic priorities for improvement; and ensure the safe-guarding and accessibility of community collections and stories.
Industry expert reviewers were matched to each organisation and provided free professional advice and assistance throughout the Program.
The reviewers for Outback at Isa congratulated them for providing a full annual gallery exhibition program, which is professionally presented and openings are well attended.
"Outback at Isa has taken the opportunity to enthusiastically engage in discussions around initiatives to further improve the centre," the reviewers said.
Reviewers for Mount Isa Underground Hospital and Museum commended it for the range and depth of its community engagement.
"Continuing to work with other organisations and businesses in the community, especially those linked to tourism, assists in raising both the profile of the museum and raising a sense of community pride about the important stories it tells," the reviewers said.
Meanwhile reviewers congratulated Cloncurry Unearthed Visitor Information Centre and Museum for operating this facility to a high standard and for their dedication to tackling issues around the huge task of collection management.
Likewise reviewers for John Flynn Place Museum and Art Gallery commended staff for their willingness to embrace the Standards Review Program.
"They used the Program to benchmark their policies and prioritise the work to be done within the museum collection."
