With Christmas soon upon us and schools throughout Mount Isa finished up for the year, it's time for many to think about taking a break and look back at the year we've had.

Although we'll be taking a short break at Council over the Christmas and New Year period, it is still very much business as usual while we have a great number of projects and activities still underway.
CBD and city-wide beautification remain an important activity and recent works have included the Sunset/Camooweal Street median planting and excavation, and of course the beautiful addition to the CBD of the city Christmas Tree and its surrounding trees with the beautiful light sequencing.
The positive feedback that Council have received on this project has been overwhelming, with some saying that it the most festive atmosphere they have experienced in our great city.
Work to the Family Fun continues with daily cleans and a thorough clean-up every Wednesday where all play equipment is washed and BBQ oil drums are emptied.
We have identified that the Fun Park requires major upgrades and have undertaken community consultation to ascertain the needs of our users and we have a funding submission currently with the State Government for this exciting upgrade project.
Our Library has also been caught up in the festive spirit, with Santa's mailbox collecting letters from the children of Mount Isa recently. The mailbox is now closed and the letters are on their way to the South Pole.
The Library continues to support the community with a wonderful range of activities, from baby Rhyme Time to the Film Club, and special classes including financial management and historical presentations.
I must also make mention of the Senior's Christmas Lunch this year, hosted by Mayor Joyce McCulloch. At 250 guests, the numbers were more than double our usual attendance and we are extremely pleased to give back to the senior citizens of our community, and we thank them for their support.
In my portfolios of Beautification, Parks and Gardens, and Library, I am delighted with the constant stream of projects, upgrades and activities undertaken by our dedicated staff and works crews, in order to make our city a wonderful place to work, live and raise a family.
I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and look forward to seeing you all in 2020.
