At about 9pm on December 9, Back received information that two Korean backpackers had hit a beast along the Diamantina Development Road, about 150 kilometres from Boulia.

After being stuck in the dark on the side of the road for an hour, a local from Bedourie located the girls and assisted in getting their vehicle off the road before transporting them to Boulia.
When the girls, Hana and Bong, arrived in Boulia at 1am, Senior Constable Norris checked if they needed medical assistance however luckily both girls were uninjured.
Given the language barrier it was difficult to reassure that everything would be ok, however Senior Constable Norris soon learned the girls had been travelling for 13 hours from Alice Springs heading to Cairns when the accident happened.
Senior Constable Norris found accommodation for the girls in town for the night and caught up with them the following morning. After the girls had a much needed rest Senior Constable Norris met with them to assist helping them to continue their journey to Cairns.
Living in a remote location such as Boulia presents very limited options of transport, so Senior Constable Norris researched travel options via vehicle and air, liaised with the hire car company to explain the accident on behalf of the Korean girls due to the language barrier and even got in contact with a translator to assist in the arrangements.
A local from Boulia was even kind enough to organise a lift for the girls to Mount Isa where they could catch their flight to Cairns.
Both Hana and Bong were very grateful for all the help they received from Boulia Police and the local community. Senior Constable Kelli Norris was gifted a hat and one of their 'Bong Travels' t-shirts with a lovely handwritten note.
