Maddie Staff, 23, was a governess in the Gulf of Carpentaria and the Barkly region before relocating to Florina Station near Katherine where she teaches three "beautiful children" and regularly competes in rodeo.

Run by the National Rodeo Council of Australia, the Rodeo Queen of Australia competition promotes young women into the sport of rodeo with the winner of the Rodeo Queen competition becoming the national and international ambassador for NRCA.

Ms Staff actively supports rodeo events and wanted to enter in the rodeo queen competition to attract the younger generation to the sport.

"I have helped kids compete in bullock rides, novice bull and steer undecorating," Ms Staff said.

"I'm entering the competition this year for the children I teach who compete in the mini ponies and poddy's rides, as I want the girls to remember they can do anything the boys can too!"

Ms Staff said throughout the year she would be running fundraisers to benefit the local community as well.

"I recently held a raffle with 25 per cent of proceeds going to Katherine Isolated Children's Service," she said.

"Thanks to the generous donations from the local businesses including Rod and Rifle, Toyworld, S&M Hair, Whitehouse Furnishing and Top End News ) with 100's boards and meat raffles coming up in the near future."

This is not the first time that Ms Staff has hosted events for charity or community groups, coordinating a flood relief charity auction fundraiser in 2019 after the disasterous February flood.

Ms Staff and the Mount Isa School of the Air governess group raised $15,000 through an online auction to get students back into schoolrooms after floods destroyed cattle stations.
