The QRL released the 2020 draw in December which featured Round 17 as the 'Get in the Game' Country Week and said grounds for the popular fixtures would be finalised and released early this year before the start of the competition.
However a Richmond Shire Council Facebook post on January 6 suggests the town will host a Blackhawks game that round at Charlie Wehlow Oval which is currently closed for redevelopment.
The Facebook post said the following:
"Just a reminder from our September 6 public notice - the Charlie Wehlow Oval is closed for a redevelopment. The oval will host a Blackhawks Game in July, we apologise for the inconvenience, however it is important that the oval is re-vitalised in order to meet QRL playing standards."
Richmond Shire Council would not comment further however the draw has Townsville Blackhawks scheduled to play Wynnum Manly Seagulls that round on the weekend of July 18-19 at a venue the QRL says remains "TBA".
If Richmond does host the game, it will be the second Blackhawks game in four years in the North West after Mount Isa hosted their Country Week game against the Central Queensland Capras in 2016.
There could be a Mount Isa connection again after three young Mount Isa men were selected for the upcoming Blackhawks season and will debut this year.
Mount Isa second rower Teurewera Potini, centre Simeona Tala-Sio and fullback Hayden Andrews graduated the Battlewon program which is the brainchild of former NRL player John Doyle, who is now the owner of Three Sons fitness gym in Mount Isa, and still plays for Townies.
