Derricks Boxing has kicked off the new decade by stepping up their development of young fighters with a representative academy.

Head coach James Derrick said the academy training sessions were open to all boxers, irrespective if they were initially selected or not.
Derrick did however single out one young man who is making waves in the gym.
"Congratulations to young Kael Burns, Kael definitely going places, when he's not training for boxing he's playing football and he's a bloody legend this kid," Derrick said.
"Talent is one thing but working hard and truly believing in yourself and sacrificing is what takes you to the next level.
"Kael definitely works hard for his goals and he will busy this year with boxing and football and I'm going to help him achieve these goals," Derrick said.
"For a young boy he's all ready thinking like a professional athlete, also well done to all the other kids who made the academy."
Players wishing to follow the pathway must be available and committed to full representative duties.
The first representative duties will be at the North Queensland Country Carnival on Saturday May 16 and Sunday 17 in Innisfail.

The second round of representative duties will be held in Cloncurry on Friday May 29 and Saturday 30.

Players selected from these carnivals will represent North Queensland Country teams at the North Queensland Marlins Junior Championships in Townsville on June 12,13 and 14.
