From January 20 to 27, the Bureau of Meteorology is predicting showers and storms to cross the North West.
BoM forecaster Kimba Wong said it was associated with a surface trough drawing in moisture.
"It is a pretty interesting week for the North West. Today (Monday January 20) Mount Isa has reduced chance of showers, but closer to the Gulf and east can expect showers from today," Ms Wong said.
"The reason we are seeing this weather is due to a surface trough drawing in moisture to the north and east, however as the trough moves south and west falls will increase in the North West.
"There is a greater chance of rain towards the end of the week."
Ms Wong said these storms would still be very hit and miss.
"These showers and storms can be patchy, so those lucky enough to get under a storm could easily see into the double digits," she said.
"This weather event is not associated with monsoonal activity.
"We haven't seen any proper monsoonal activity yet, there is a bit of a surge coming across the top end in the next few days but Queensland hasn't seen that proper monsoonal trough just yet."
