The Civic Centre hosted the Australia Day awards with Sandy Lennox taking out the citizen of the year award for her work with Kalkadoon Aboriginal Sobriety House and St Vincent de Paul.
Talented young singer Megan Sarmardin, then 16, hinted at her bright future as she won the junior cultural award.
People gathered on the Civic Centre lawn for a sausage sizzle and also watched a criterium cycle race before Mayor Ron McCullough naturalised eight new citizens.
There was some sadness as people remembered local character Wally Mailman who died a day earlier.
Mailman was a rodeo legend and caretaker at Kalkadoon Park. The Mailman Express race in Isa rodeo week is named for him.
