Holding the hands of their parents, Prep students met their new teachers and new classmates for the year.
Healy State School Prep teacher Taylor Barnes said they had 27 students starting Prep in 2020.
"This is bigger then my class last year, by nine students," Ms Barnes said.
"There are always a few students and parents who shed a few tears on the first day, it can be very overwhelming and busy but students settle in pretty quickly."
Ms Barnes said there were a number of things that the kids looked forward too.
"The playground is their biggest thing," she said.
"But also meeting their Kindy friends. They definitely find their friends within the first few days of the school year."
Twin sisters, Edie and Amelia Jobling were excited to attend their first day of school and said they looked forward to meeting new friends and playing.
"I like to draw," Amelia said.
