Netball, basketball and volleyball will be contested between New Zealanders and Australians as part of Waitangi Day celebrations on Saturday February 8 at the Mount Isa Basketball Stadium.
MIBA president Jerome Sopoaga (who was born in New Zealand) said he was really looking forward to the special day.
"Waitangi Day is an important day for all Kiwis where we come together as one and remember the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi where the British settlers and the Maori people came together under a common set of laws and agreements," Mr Sopoaga said.
"It will be a fun day to incorporate all the sports into Waitangi Day but also have that competitive edge between our neighbouring nations.
"There will be speeches from New Zealand elders, kids games for the little ones, as well as performances from several native groups."
Mr Sopoaga also thanked the organisation Hope Youth for their work on preparing the stadium.
"Shout out to Hope Youth of the Saint Andrews Uniting Church for the fantastic job in getting our stadium ready for the upcoming sports season. On behalf of the MIBA committee, thank you for the work you've done over the weekend, it is greatly appreciated," Mr Sopoaga said.
Doors open at 9am for free entry with food and drink purchase available at the canteen.
