Queensland Rail's Head of Regional, Jim Benstead said significant rainfall in North West Queensland has resulted in flood impacts on the line.
"Flooding has occurred in the area from Torrens Creek to Prairie, resulting in washouts and structure damage to bridges," Mr Benstead said.
"Our crews have been progressively inspecting the line where safe to do so and we're aware of repairs required at Prairie Creek and Emu Creek."
Mr Benstead said QR was monitoring the situation with further rainfall possible over predicted for the coming days and the line remains closed until repairs have been completed.
"This current weather event has acted differently to that of last year with the majority of rain falling in locations not historically identified to be an issue," he said.
"A detailed assessment cannot take place until flood waters recede. At Emu Creek, there is still two metres of water flowing below the rail line."
Train services have resumed on the branch line between Mount Isa and Phosphate Hill.
It was at the edge of the Prairie Creek rail bridge that the operator of a fully-loaded Pacific National train halted early on the morning of January 26, after identifying the track had been compromised by flood waters.
