A low pressure system near New Caledonia would track south if it intensifies into a cyclone. The BoM said a cyclone would not hit Australia but could increase swell on the coast.
The bureau expects the low to move east from Monday, where it's potential to develop into a cyclone is greater than 50 per cent.
If a cyclone does form early next week it would be named either Uesi or Esther depending on whether it formed within the Fijian or Australian region.
Little further rain is expected in North West Queensland as temperatures soar during the week.
Monday will be hot and sunny with a max of 41.
Maximum temperatures will rise to 44 by the weekend.
