Queensland's inaugural Festival of Outback Opera will be co-presented by Opera Queensland and Camerata Queensland's Chamber Orchestra.
The three-day event will feature internationally renowned performers alongside Queensland's leading opera singers accompanied by its premier orchestra.
Director of learning regional and community for Opera Queensland Mark Taylor said a series of concerts will be presented and community engagement programs undertaken in and around the stunning surrounds of Mount Isa.
"A large-scale flagship event will be a key highlight, performing much-loved operatic repertoire staged outdoors against the quintessentially outback Queensland backdrop of The Granites," Mr Taylor said.
"We are super excited but also really want to get tourism to the outback, we have done work out here before and we have always received a great response.
"I actually went to the granite mines with Mayor Joyce McCulloch four years ago and the idea sparked from there.
"I have seen first hand how much regional opera has increased and changed over the last 10 years so we are keen to take over Mount Isa for three days."
Producer Min Collie-Holmes said they would be taking exerts from a whole range of shows instead of showing just one big viewing.
"There's quite a large team coming out for the festival, with a huge resume of talented performers who have performed all over the world.
"The festival will not be in the CBD but rather somewhere because we want the audience to experience the real out back, the stars in the sky and the dirt on the ground."
Opera Queensland began in 2006 and is based in Brisbane.
