The new restaurant is located on the corner of Rodeo Drive and Camooweal Street inside the Ibis Hotel replacing Verona.

General manager of Ibis Styles Mount Isa Jessica James said the name Giuseppe's Cantina originated from Italian migrant Giuseppe Vaiente who was the original owner of the Ibis Hotel.

"The restaurant inside was the first ever in Mount Isa 56 years ago back in 1964," Ms James said.

Ms James said the word Cantina also had a background story.

"We have a wine cellar down stairs and Cantina means wine cellar in Italian and it's where Giuseppe would do negotiations with bankers and insurance brokers," she said.

"I think he would be proud and excited of what we have made come back to life, he brought a lot to Mount Isa, it's a shame he is no longer with us."

Ms James said the old restaurant Verona was gone for good.

"Verona won't be coming back, what we have now is a lot more brighter and modern with the food focusing on Italy instead of modern Australian," she said.

"We are still have a lot of the same staff from Verona but we have a new restaurant manager and a new executive chef.

"The best selling item would have to be the pork belly, the truffle fries are always popular and our panna cotta finishes off a lot of customers for desert."

Giuseppe's Cantina is open seven days a week.
