After lobbying from Cloncurry Shire Council Mayor Greg Campbell, funding was secured from the Western Queensland Primary Health Network (WQPHN) under the Primary Mental Health 'Empowering our Communities' Initiative - funding for community-led mental health initiatives in drought affected areas and flood.

Cr Campbell said the project was a great collaboration between Flinders Medical Centre and Council.

"This new space gives the type of quiet, private space for people to access mental health assistance when needed," he said.

"People of the North West are tough, but we encourage them to reach out for help from time to time."

Anne Schmidt from the Flinders Medical Centre said, "The Unit one project is another example of how well supported we are by the Cloncurry Shire Council and the Primary Health Network in Mount Isa.

"The funding has enabled us to create a comfortable, quiet space to cater for the mental health of our patients; more specifically those impacted by the disastrous flooding in 2019."

Locals can access this resource by obtaining a referral from their GP or people can self-refer by ringing the centre for an appointment.

The psychologist is available for appointments Monday to Thursday, every second week.
