A post on social media alleging that a Cloncurry resident has been isolated with COVID-19 has caused unnecessary alarm.
On March 6, a resident posted to social media stating "Cloncurry has a fella who is in isolation for coronavirus but has not hit media yet."
The post was shared 79 times with comments of locals suggesting they were "staying home as much as possible".
When contacting Queensland Health, a spokesperson said there was no reason to be alarmed.
"As of 12pm today (Tuesday March 10), there are no cases of coronavirus in Cloncurry or North West Queensland," a Queensland Health spokesperson said.
The rumour follows similar incorrect reports of COVID-19 at Mount Isa Mines.
Two Glencore staff at Hail Creek coal mine in the Bowen Basin were tested negative for COVID-19.
Glencore said that on Friday two people at Hail Creek operations reporting flu-like symptoms were tested for the disease and had been isolated as a precautionary measure.
"On 7 March, the treating medical practitioner advised that both tests returned negative for COVID-19," Glencore said.
Glencore's global operations have related contingency plans supported by expert external medical advice and guidance from local authorities, it said.
"All Glencore operations including Hail Creek will continue to follow the advice of medical practitioners and relevant health authorities with respect to COVID-19 and take precautionary measures as required," Glencore said.
