The Club was successful in receiving multiple grants of funding to expand their layout, allowing more rounds and shooters to compete at one time.
Cloncurry Clay Target Club president Jim Molloy said a $35,000 grant was approved through the Gambling Family Benefit Fund in 2019.
"Since we got approved for the grant, we have been working with Cloncurry Shire Council because with the fourth layout going in we needed more land. The Council has allocated us some more land to the west and we are putting in the concrete layings for the steel trap house," Mr Molloy said.
"We were grateful to get the $35,000 grant to do the infrastructure work, Cloncurry Shire Council gave us $5000 to put towards the clay target thrower and Councillor Vicky Campbell gave us $3000 of her payrise; which was generous on her part.
"So now we hope to save a few dollars in construction, so we should have enough money to purchase the clay target thrower in the next few months."
Mr Molloy said this upgrade would provide the club with many benefits.
"It gives us ability to have bigger events and entice more people to come to town, especially when we have out big shoot in June. If we have more layouts, they can shoot more targets and draw more people to the club.
"Everyone is over the moon and very happy this is going ahead."
Mr Molloy said the club had been working towards this for a while with works already commencing.
"We started talking about this last year," he said.
"Works on the trap house has started already with a club member donating some steel and another member building it. The concrete will be going down in the next couple of days, the excavation works for the camping power and water will hopefully go in the next couple of days as well."
Mr Molloy hopes to have the works completed by the end of April.
The Cloncurry Clay Target Club also received $5000 from Ernest Henry Mining to g towards a new cooker to assist with catering for events.
