Last week the Federal Government enforced a ban on all non-essential gatherings over 500 people and this is no exception to outback Queensland, with Dirt n Dust making the call to cancel their event, due to be held April 17-19.
Event spokesperson Margie Ryder said it was disappointing to have to cancel the event after all the hard work planning it for almost a year.
"We'll be meeting with the community and Council on Thursday to work out just we are going to do the refunds, what we are going to do in the community," Ms Ryder said.
"There's a whole body of work we need to do from now making sure we have all the information and feeding to the committee and the community."
Meanwhile organisers of the Birdsville Big Red Bash say they're working closely with Queensland Health on planning for their event.
They say at this stage the event will go ahead in July.
