Owned and operated by Queensland Airports Limited, Mount Isa Airport has begun making adjustments in terminals to prevent contamination and spread of of COVID-19 in Mount Isa.
Mount Isa Airport Chief Operating Officer Kevin Gill said measures were in place to keep employees and travellers safe.
"Increased hygiene measures are in place in the terminal, along with signage reflecting Federal Department of Health messaging," Mr Gill said.
"We continue to work closely with Federal and State government agencies in relation to this matter and are following their direction.
"Our priority is the welfare of our passengers, employees and partners."
Airlines are also assisting passengers who are concerned about travelling due to COVID-19 fears.
Qantas announcing today (March 16), it was extending travel times for international and domestic booking changes and refunds.
"We're giving customers who hold tickets for domestic and international travel the ability to cancel their booking and retain the value as travel credit," Qantas said.
"The travel credit: applies to all Qantas Group services and is available until March 31 for travel booked up to May 31, 2020. Flights can be redeemed for travel within 12 months of the date that the original ticket was issued. Change fees will be waived."
Virgin Australia have also allowed flexibility for domestic and international bookings.
"Virgin Australia guests with new or existing bookings for travel between March 15 through to June 30, 2020 have the option to change their flight to a later date and/or to a different destination, without incurring a change fee," Virgin said.
"Guests will still be required to pay any fare difference or applicable taxes should the same booking class/fare not be available on the date they wish to rebook. "Maximum two changes per international booking and a maximum one change per domestic booking."
