A meeting was held on Monday March 16, between Rugby Australia, National Development Panel, and State and Territory Member Unions' with all parties agreeing to postpone all community rugby games until the first week of May, effective immediately.

This recommendation covers rugby matches, training and face-to-face education courses.

Rugby Australia said the decision had not been made lightly.

"It has been made with the interests of the participants, families and the broader community as the priority," Rugby Australia said.

"The National Development Panel will meet weekly for the foreseeable future and will review this position and communicate any updates regularly."

The Mount Isa rugby season is expected to continue with finals in May.

"The four club committees (Keas, Warrigals, Cloncurry and Euros) have voted on majority to continue the semi and finals in May rather than end on the ladder scores," Mount Isa Rugby Union president Kurt McGregor said.

"This was a very tough decision to make considering we are two weeks away from completing our season, however, we have to ensure the safety of our players, supporters and the wider community.

"We are grateful to have the support of the community and hope that the measures we have taken will provide support for those individuals who could be seriously impacted by the current situation."

Mount Isa Rugby Union joins a growing list of cancellations and restrictions including the cancellation of Julia Creek Dirt n Dust, Queensland Horse Racing, Boulia Campdraft and Rodeo, Queensland Police static RBTs and ANZAC Day commemorations.
